PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Oxytocin belongs to the hormones, which are produced into the posterior pituitary and acts stimulating influence to the uterus and utter smooth myofibrils. The dilatation of the os cervix affects an irritant for the release of oxytocin. During the labor its levels arise to high planes, fact that contributes to the rise of the intensity pain and so to the embryo’s propulsion. However, has not improved that in cases of absolutely deficiency of oxytocin the labor and the lactation could be failed. It’s also well known that oxytocin facilitates the sperm rise to the uterus.  

TARGET SPECIES
Female: Horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs and cats.

INDICATIONS
•    Stimulation of labor, when there is severe delay, or when there is dead fetus  (simultaneous administration with estrogens).
•    Primary or secondary uterine inertia (not obstructive). In such cases, small and repeated doses should be administered.
•    Inadequate uterine tonicity, as a consequence of cesarean section.
•    Acute puerperal metritis, pyometra and remaining placenta.
•    Puerperal uterine hemorrhages and accidental hemorrhages
•    Accessory role for the reduction of uterine prolapse
•    Agalaxia and mammary oedema (in cows and dogs).
•    Μastitis (helps emptying the mammary glands from milk and inflammatory secretions). So it becomes possible to inject antibiotics intramammary

DOSAGE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Administer by intramuscular, subcutaneous or slow intravenous route.

If the product is administered intramuscularly, the action of OXYTOCIN starts during the first 6 – 10 minutes and lasts about two hours.
If the product is administered intravenously, the action of OXYTOCIN is immediate and powerful for the first 10 minutes and then it progressively disappears within the next half hour.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Do not use while there is toxemia, fetal oversize (disproportional to the uterus size), abnormal fetal projection and form, insufficient diastole of the os cervix, uterine hypertony or hypersensitivity and generally cases which could may cause uterine rupture.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Subcutaneous way of administration may cause contusion or discoloration of the injection area.
The undesirable effects are usually caused by the overdose. So can be induced  intensive uterine pains, which lead to the uterine damage and rupture.  
In horses and cows the overdose could induce severe decrease of arterial pressure.
On the other hand, in dogs and cats the overdose may induce increase of arterial pressure. When this happens then arise apathy, repression, epilepsy, coma and death and should be handled immediately is accompanied by mannitol or dextrose administration, with or not simultaneously diuretic.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER MEDICINES
Simultaneously administration of epinephrine or other vasoconstrictors may cause post partum hypertension to female dogs and cats.

INCOMPATIBILITY
Oxytocine solutions must not be mixed with dextrose solutions

The overdose cause the undesirable effects

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
The administration should be done with attention at animals with acute uterin inertia, at animals with great number of fetal and pregnancy of old age.

The product remains stable for 2 years when it is stored in room temperature, and 3 years when it is stored in 2 – 8o C.
