Target species
Calves, pigs, broilers and laying hens, the eggs of which are not intended for human consumption.
Indications for use, specifying the target species
Infections that are caused by bacteria sensitive in the action of doxycycline.
More specifically it is recommended:
Calves:
-Infections caused by Pasteurella spp, such as pneumonia and shipping fever.
- Anaplasmosis that is caused by Anaplasma marginale.
Pigs:
- Atrophic rhinitis, that is caused by Pasteurella spp and Bordetella bronchiseptica.
- Bronchopneumonia that is caused by Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus suis and Mycoplasma hyorhinitis
- Pleuropneumonia, that is caused byActinobacillus pleuropneumoniae.
Broilers, laying hens which eggs are not intended for human consumption.
- Colibacilosis that is caused by Escherichia coli in broilers
-CRD that is owed to Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
Contra – indications
Do not administer in animals with known hypersensitivity in tetracyclines
Special warnings for each target species
Before the addition of the product in potable water, it must be first dissolved in tepid water.

Special precautions for use in animals
The quantity of the potable solution that is consumed by the animals is influenced by the temperature of the environment and by the health condition of the animals. The quantity of the added substance in potable water must be adjusted suitably, so that the animals receive the recommended dose.
Special precautions that should be taken from the person administrating the veterinary medicinal product in animals
Because of the probability of causing hypersensitivity and contact dermatitis, the direct contact with the skin should be avoided. Gloves and masks must be used by the person administering the product.
Adverse reactions (frequency and seriousness)
It is possible to be caused diarrhoea. It can be caused pigmentation of bones that are in osteosis.
Use during pregnancy, lactation
It can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Not to be administered in laying hens the eggs of which are intended for human consumption.
Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction
It must not be administered simultaneously with bacillicide antimicrobials, such as penicillines and cephalosporines. It must be given attention so that the pH of the potable water is not acidic.
Amounts to be administered and administration route
Calves:
5 mg doxycycline hyclate / kg b.w., two times per day. The treatment lasts 4 – 7 days . The total dose is divided and dissolved in milk.
Pigs:
10 mg doxycycline hyclate / kg b.w., daily after dilution in potable water. The treatment lasts 3 – 5 days.
Broilers, laying hens which eggs are not intended for human consumption:
10 mg doxycycline hyclate / kg b.w., daily after dilution in potable water. The treatment lasts 4 – 7 days.
Before the addition of the product in potable water, it must be first dissolved in tepid water.

The poisoning from doxycycline is very rare, according to the data that are reported in the international bibliography (minimal cases have been reported –LD50 is 1700 mg/kg b.w.).
In case of poisoning is necessary the direct interruption of the administration of the medicinal product and the beginning of coincidental treatment in the animal.

Incompatibilities
Doxycycline has the faculty to shape clashes unions, when it is connected with bivalent metals and particular when it is connected with bivalent iron.
Shelf life
2 years
- After its dissolution in potable water, the product remains constant for 24 hours, in room temperature (15 –25 οC ).
Special precautions for storage
It is stored in room temperature (temperature less than 25 οC) and protected from the light.
